Yangon, Myanmar – The Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association has set a combined export revenue goal of US$517 million for maize and sesame seeds during the 2025–2026 financial year, signaling a renewed focus on both traditional exports and high-value agri-processing.
🌽 Maize:
Myanmar plans to export approximately 1.36 million bags, generating $354 million. This move aligns with ongoing efforts to stabilize income and meet growing regional demand. 🥜 Sesame Seeds:
The target for sesame exports is 90,000 tonnes, expected to bring in $163 million in foreign exchange earnings.
To strengthen its competitiveness in global markets, the Association is promoting value-added maize products such as:
These efforts aim to reduce dependence on raw commodity exports and increase revenue through processing and product diversification.
However, sesame seed exports are currently experiencing sluggish demand. The association is actively engaging in discussions with trade partners and exploring new export markets to reinvigorate sales.
Maize:
Total exports: 2.4 million tonnes
Revenue earned: $574 million
Thailand remained the top importer, thanks to a zero-tariff benefit granted under Form-D between February 1 and August 31.
