Farmers across several regions have expressed deep concern over the sharp decline in soybean and maize prices, which have fallen below the expected market rate this season. Due to the low returns, many cultivators are struggling to cover their input costs, including seeds, fertilizers, and transportation.
Farmer organizations have announced plans to stage protests and sit-ins (dharnas), demanding fair minimum support prices (MSP) and immediate government intervention. They argue that despite good yields, market traders are offering prices far below production costs, leaving farmers in distress. Leaders from various farmer unions have called for transparent procurement systems and stronger policies to protect farmers’ interests. Many have also urged authorities to ensure that agricultural produce is purchased at remunerative and guaranteed prices.
