In a major step toward crop diversification, the government has announced the promotion of makhana (fox nut) cultivation in regions traditionally known for maize production. Under this new initiative, farmers will be encouraged to shift part of their agricultural land from maize to makhana, a high-value and water-efficient crop.
Officials stated that the move aims to increase farmers’ income and promote sustainable farming practices. To support this transition, the government will provide financial subsidies, technical training, and high-quality makhana seeds to interested farmers.
Agriculture experts believe that introducing makhana in maize-dominant areas will not only improve soil fertility but also open new market opportunities for rural communities.
