mmdeinternational.com - 🌾 Telangana Requests Support for Soybean & Maize Procurement 🚜🤝

Soybean prices in Telangana are currently hovering between ₹3,800 and ₹4,000 per quintal, while the MSP is set at ₹5,328 per quintal. Maize market price stands at about ₹1,959 per quintal, which is ₹441 below the MSP of ₹2,400. The expected soybean production for the 2025‑26 kharif season is estimated at 2.79 lakh tonnes, on an area of 3.66 lakh hectares. For maize, the state estimates the procurement requirement at around 8.66 lakh tonnes, with a financial implication of approximately ₹2,400 crore if the entire requirement is to be met. The state has urged the Union Agriculture Ministry to allow purchase of these crops under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM‑AASHA) via agencies such as NAFED and Food Corporation of India (FCI).

Farmers in Telangana are producing large volumes of soybean and maize, but selling at prices below MSP, which creates financial stress for them. If procurement at MSP is not initiated quickly, there is a risk of distress sales, where farmers are forced to sell to private traders at low prices.
