India’s food processing sector is witnessing remarkable growth, strengthening the country’s global footprint and boosting value addition in agriculture. According to the latest data released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the share of processed food in India’s agri-food exports has risen from 13.7% in 2014–15 to 20.4% in 2024–25, signaling a strong push towards higher-quality, value-added products.
The sector’s Gross Value Added (GVA) has also seen impressive growth, jumping 67% from Rs 1.34 lakh crore to Rs 2.24 lakh crore over the same period. This reflects the combined impact of modernized processing units, technology adoption, and government initiatives promoting food processing clusters and exports.
With India emerging as a key player in the global food market, the growth in processed food exports demonstrates the sector’s potential to enhance farmers’ incomes, create jobs, and increase the share of Indian products on international shelves.
The Government of India continues to focus on policies that strengthen infrastructure, encourage investments, and promote innovative processing technologies, aiming to make India a global hub for processed food.
