www.asiaagrifood.com - 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka Receives 500 Tons of Rice 🍚 from Myanmar 🇲🇲 Following Cyclone 🌪️

In a show of humanitarian support, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar donated 500 tonnes (10,000 bags) of rice to help communities in Sri Lanka recover from the destruction caused by the recent cyclone Ditwah. The handover ceremony took place at the Asia World Port Terminal in Yangon Port, where officials from both countries gathered to mark the gesture of solidarity.

Representatives including the Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Myanmar’s Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Than Soe, and the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar Mrs. Prabashni Ponnamperuma attended the event. During the ceremony, Myanmar’s leaders formally handed over documents for the rice donation, which will be transported to Sri Lanka and distributed to those most affected by the cyclone’s impact.

The donation comes amid ongoing international efforts to support Sri Lanka’s recovery after Cyclone Ditwah caused widespread flooding, landslides and extensive damage to agriculture and infrastructure. Nations and communities around the world — including aid from expatriate groups and other countries — are contributing resources to help alleviate food insecurity and support rebuilding.
