Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has announced a new collaboration with a Maharashtra-based agritech firm to work on innovative sugarcane juice blotting technology. The partnership aims to enhance the preservation and processing of sugarcane juice, addressing key issues related to shelf life, hygiene, and commercial scalability. The project is expected to focus on developing efficient blotting techniques that can reduce microbial contamination and prevent spoilage of sugarcane juice during storage and transportation.
This innovation holds promise for both farmers and processors, offering a potential value-addition avenue and minimizing post-harvest losses. Officials from PAU stated that the joint initiative reflects the university's commitment to applied agricultural research and industry partnerships that benefit both growers and agri-businesses. The Maharashtra firm, whose name is yet to be officially disclosed, brings domain expertise in sugarcane processing and agritech solutions, making it a suitable partner for this venture. Field trials and lab testing are expected to begin in the coming months, with prototypes likely to be rolled out by early 2026.This collaboration also aligns with the national focus on doubling farmer income through technology integration, better processing methods, and enhanced supply chain efficiency.
