Bengaluru, October 13, 2025: Farmers in Karnataka have intensified their demand for the state government and sugar mills to fix the price of sugarcane before the commencement of the crushing season. With the harvesting and crushing period approaching, farmers are urging authorities to announce a fair and remunerative cane price to avoid last-minute disputes and financial losses.
Representatives of various sugarcane farmer associations across Karnataka have expressed concerns over delayed price declarations in previous years, which led to uncertainty and affected their income. They argue that fixing the price beforehand will enable them to plan better for the season and safeguard their livelihoods.
Several farmer unions have threatened to protest if their demands are not met promptly. The demand has also caught the attention of local legislators and agricultural experts who stress the importance of timely and transparent pricing mechanisms to maintain harmony between growers and sugar mills.
Sugar mill owners, on the other hand, have cited fluctuating sugar prices and market conditions as challenges in deciding cane rates early.
