Budaun district has witnessed a remarkable rise in maize cultivation over the past two years. According to agriculture department data, the area under maize farming has increased more than three times, reflecting a major shift in cropping patterns among local farmers.
Agricultural experts say the growth is driven by better market prices, lower water requirements compared to traditional crops, and improved availability of high-yield maize seeds. Farmers are increasingly opting for maize as it offers good returns and is suitable for changing climate conditions.
Officials from the agriculture department have also supported farmers through training programs, seed distribution, and awareness campaigns, encouraging diversification of crops. As a result, many farmers who earlier depended mainly on wheat and paddy are now turning towards maize cultivation.
Local farmers expressed satisfaction with the cropβs performance, stating that maize requires less maintenance and provides stable income. If this trend continues, maize could become one of the major crops of Budaun district in the coming years.
