mmdeinternational.com - Karnataka Govt to Hold Talks with Distilleries & Ethanol Producers on Maize Crisis 🌽🏭🤝

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has announced that it will convene a high-level meeting with distilleries and ethanol manufacturers to address the growing concerns over the maize crisis affecting farmers across the state. The move comes amid rising complaints from farmer groups that large-scale procurement of maize by the ethanol industry has contributed to price instability in local markets. Many growers say they are facing difficulty securing fair prices due to increased demand from industrial units.

According to officials, the upcoming meeting will bring together representatives from the agriculture department, food and civil supplies department, distillery owners, and ethanol producers to discuss ways to stabilize the maize market and protect farmers’ interests. A senior official said the government aims to find a balanced solution that supports both farmers and industries dependent on maize. The discussions are expected to focus on procurement practices, pricing mechanisms, and ensuring sufficient availability of maize for both industrial use and local consumption.

Farmer organizations have welcomed the government’s intervention, stating that immediate steps are essential to prevent distress sales and ensure transparency in procurement. The meeting is likely to take place within the week, and the government is expected to release guidelines based on the outcome.
