In a move aimed at supporting farmers and stabilizing maize prices, the Karnataka government has announced an increase in the maize procurement limit to 50 quintals per farmer. This decision comes as part of the stateβs ongoing efforts to ensure fair prices for agricultural produce and reduce distress sales during peak harvest seasons. According to officials, the enhanced limit will help a larger number of maize growers benefit from the Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism. Farmers with higher yields, who previously sold a major portion of their produce in open markets at lower rates, will now be able to secure better returns through government procurement centers.
The state agriculture department expects the revised cap to boost farmer income, encourage maize cultivation, and improve market stability. Farmer groups have welcomed the move, stating that this increase will offer meaningful financial relief, especially amid rising cultivation costs.
The government is also planning to streamline procurement processes to ensure timely payments and reduce logistical challenges faced by farmers during peak procurement periods.
