mmdeinternational.com- Rajasthan govt surpasses initial target for cooperative millet stores

Millet Maize DDGS Ethanol Int- The Rajasthan government has made significant strides in promoting millet consumption by surpassing its original target for setting up millet retail outlets. Under the state’s cooperative department initiative, 152 millet outlets have been opened across Rajasthan so far, which is about 4.5 times more than the initial goal of 34 outlets.

The initial plan was for these outlets to be established via the Rajasthan State Cooperative Consumer Federation (Confed) and District Cooperative Consumer Stores. However, expansion plans have broadened to include purchasing-selling cooperative societies and village service cooperative societies, enabling a wider reach into rural and remote areas.

This scaling up has been driven by two main factors: the active involvement of cooperative societies in the rollout, and a growing interest among consumers in integrating millets into their diet due to their nutritional value and health benefits.

The millet outlets are stocking a variety of millet‐based products, including millet mix, roasted jowar, roasted millet, ragi biscuits, oats biscuits, cookies, ragi flakes, among others—offering both staple and value-added millet foods. This diverse product mix is designed to cater to both traditional consumers of millet and newer consumers looking for healthier or alternative dietary options.
