sugarethanolbioenergy.com- Nepal: Government earmarks Rs. 750 million grant for sugarcane farmers

Sugar Ethanol Bioenergy Int- Kathmandu: The government has allocated nearly Rs 750 million as a grant to sugarcane farmers under its incentive programme, reports My Republica. The amount corresponds to around 20.16 million quintals of sugarcane supplied by farmers from 13 districts to sugar mills.

Farmers currently receive Rs 585 per quintal from the mills, while the government contributes an additional Rs 30 per quintal as support.Mahananda Joshi, Information Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, said the grant money will be deposited directly into farmers’ bank accounts through the District Treasury Controller Offices.

Until last year, the grant was set at Rs 70 per quintal. Budget limitations forced the government to reduce it by half, which led to delays in fund allocation and concerns among farmers about late payments.Commercial sugarcane farming in Nepal is concentrated in Sunsari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Rautahat, Bara, and Nawalparasi districts. Farmers in these regions are expected to benefit most from the latest grant release.
