The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification allowing the export of organic sugar under specific HS codes (1701 14 90 & 1701 99 90), which were earlier classified as Restricted. Under the new notification, exports are now permitted with an annual cap of 50,000 metric tonnes (MT) per financial year. This approval is part of a partial update to DGFT policy, modifying Notification No. 36/2023 dated 18 Oct 2023 and takes effect immediately. 📦 The export process will follow the procedures set out in the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, and APEDA (Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) will outline the export modalities.
also reported on this significant move, noting that the government has eased export restrictions for organic sugar, making it easier for producers and traders to access international markets while keeping domestic supply considerations in mind.
