Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in terms of average sugar recovery during the ongoing crushing season, reflecting improved efficiency in sugar production. According to industry data, the state has recorded an average recovery rate of around 9.5%, which is higher than the national average and ahead of other major sugar-producing states.
The strong performance is being attributed to better-quality sugarcane, improved cane varieties, and favourable weather conditions, which helped mills extract more sugar per unit of cane. Timely harvesting and efficient milling operations have also played a key role in boosting recovery levels. Higher sugar recovery is beneficial for both farmers and sugar mills, as it increases overall production and improves returns. Alongside better recovery, Uttar Pradesh has also witnessed a rise in total sugar output this season, strengthening its position as one of India’s leading sugar-producing states.
Industry experts believe that if current trends continue, UP could maintain its lead throughout the season, contributing significantly to the country’s overall sugar availability and stability in the market.
