Sugar Ethanol Bioenergy Int- Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) chairman Dr. R.P. Singh on Thursday assured representatives of the state’s 133 sugar mills that the board will extend full support to them in meeting environmental compliance and consent requirements. The assurance was given during a dialogue programme with industry stakeholders, reported The Times of India.Dr. Singh underlined the importance of the sugar sector to the state’s economy and society.
He said the large number of sugar mills has made Uttar Pradesh the leading sugar producer in the country. According to him, these mills not only provide jobs to lakhs of farmers and workers but also help strengthen the rural economy and make a strong contribution to the state’s income.He also urged mill owners to adopt modern practices such as advanced wastewater treatment plants, systems to control air pollution, and fuel technologies that save energy.
During the event, Dr. Yashpal Singh, senior technical advisor of the Uttar Pradesh Sugar Mills Association (UPSMA), spoke about the difficulties mills face, ongoing technical improvements, and the implementation of Charter 2.0 issued by the Central Pollution Control Board.
