India, until now, has remained firm on restricting entry of GM crops into the country’s food chain. However, with US President Donald Trump’s push for greater market access for farm products, India could look into allowing GM soya and corn for industrial purposes only—a likely loophole in the country’s policy of a strong ban on GM crops in the food chain.

Front‑month corn futures closed down by 1¼ to 2 cents in the session. The Cmdty View national average Cash Corn price fell by approximately 1¾ cents, landing at $4.04 ¾ per bushel. In the November/December “new crop” contracts, prices also slipped, consistent with broader contract declines.

Brazil’s expansion of corn-based ethanol is altering the economics of sugar-cane processing: the cheaper corn-ethanol route is making sugar-cane ethanol less competitive, causing cane processors to shift more of their crop toward sugar rather than ethanol.
