Ludhiana, Jan 2, 2026Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is set to undergo a wide‑ranging transformation in 2026, with the Vice‑Chancellor outlining ambitious plans to strengthen infrastructure, research facilities and agricultural innovation on campus. Under the initiative, PAU will invest around ₹12 crore to enhance its central library — including expanded resources and better facilities to support both students and research scholars. Plans are also underway to expand student housing with a new hostel and about 80 additional rooms in existing quarters to meet growing demand.

To improve campus life and promote sports, the university will modernize facilities such as the shooting range and add astroturf to the tennis lawns, while also revamping nearly 16 km of internal roads to ensure smoother connectivity and better access across the campus. On the academic front, PAU is focusing on digital farming tools, precision soil mapping, and climate‑resilient crop varieties to help farmers adopt modern, sustainable practices. The university will also expand programs in commercial tissue culture‑based potato seed production and provide affordable small‑scale machinery aimed especially at benefiting small farmers.

In addition, PAU plans to launch a new sales point for its products, including processed foods developed through university research, as part of efforts to strengthen value addition and rural entrepreneurship. These upgrades are part of a broader strategy to position PAU as a hub of agricultural innovation and education, ensuring that advances in technology and research are translated into practical outcomes for Punjab’s farming community.
