In a significant relief for sugarcane farmers, the Uttarakhand government has announced an increase of โน30 per quintal in the State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane for the new crushing season. The decision aims to boost farmer incomes and address rising cultivation costs.
The revised price will be applicable to all sugar mills in the state starting this season. Officials said the hike is expected to benefit thousands of sugarcane growers across major producing regions including Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Dehradun. State government representatives noted that the price revision reflects its commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring remunerative returns to farmers. The increase is also expected to help cane growers cope with expenses related to fertilizers, labour, and transportation.
Farmersโ associations have welcomed the decision, stating that the enhanced SAP will provide timely financial support and encourage more farmers to continue cultivating sugarcane. Some groups, however, have urged the government to ensure timely payments from sugar mills. With this price hike, Uttarakhand joins other states taking steps to strengthen the sugarcane economy and stabilize farmer livelihoods.
