The Price Control & Commodities Management Department has launched a 24/7 digital monitoring system for sugar mills across Punjab, Pakistan, aiming to enhance transparency, strengthen oversight, and promote data-driven decision-making in the sugar sector, said Punjab Cane Commissioner Amjad Hafeez. The Commissioner noted that the Planning & Development Board has officially approved the “Digital Monitoring Scheme for the Sugar Sector” under the Annual Development Programmed (ADP), marking a major step toward real-time supervision of sugar mills in the province.

Hafeez explained that the advanced digital system will track all key stages of the sugarcane and sugar production process in real time—from procurement to production and distribution. The system digitizes the entire workflow, including sugarcane purchase records, issuance of receipts, crushing operations, sugar production, trading, transportation, and inventory management.

In a statement on Tuesday, Hafeez added that the system will help authorities address complaints more efficiently, strengthen regulatory oversight, and enable evidence-based policymaking. Payments to sugarcane growers in Punjab will also be tracked via an integrated digital platform, ensuring timely disbursements and greater financial transparency. The initiative is expected to improve governance in the sugar sector, prevent irregularities, safeguard the interests of growers, and enhance the effectiveness of price control measures throughout the province.
