Amid rising unrest among sugarcane farmers in Karnataka, the state government has stepped in to open dialogue. A senior Karnataka minister has invited farmer representatives for talks with the Chief Minister, aiming to address their grievances and prevent further escalation.

The arrival of white maize has increased in local agricultural markets this week. With the recent harvesting season coming to an end, farmers are bringing large quantities of their produce to the mandis (agri-markets).

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sought an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the ongoing sugarcane farmers’ protest and address their concerns over fair and remunerative pricing (FRP) for their produce.

Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest sugar-producing state, is expected to record a 2% increase in sugar production this season, even as the area under sugarcane cultivation has slightly declined. 🚜According to industry officials, the rise in production is being driven by higher sugar recovery rates and improved farm productivity across major cane-growing districts such as Meerut, Saharanpur, and Muzaffarnagar.

In a major relief to maize (corn) farmers across Telangana, the state government has announced an increase in maize procurement for the current season. The move comes as a response to falling market prices and growing concerns among farmers about unsold produce.

Mumbai, November 12, 2025 – Triveni Engineering has reported a robust 18.4% growth in revenue for the first half of FY26, largely fueled by strong performance in its sugar and distillery segments. The company’s sugar operations benefited from improved production efficiency and favorable market conditions, while the distillery business saw a notable uptick in demand for ethanol and allied products.

The PSMA called on the government to approve a proposed deregulation policy for the sugar sector early, arguing that this will help sugarcane growers secure better prices for their crops. The statement noted that last year, farmers benefitted from improved sugarcane rates when there was minimal government interference and cooperative efforts from the governments of Punjab and Sindh.
