Amaravati: In a major relief to maize growers across Andhra Pradesh, Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu has assured farmers that the government will begin timely procurement of maize to ensure they receive fair prices and are protected from market fluctuations. Speaking at a review meeting with officials and farmer representatives, the minister emphasized that no farmer should be forced to sell their produce at distress prices. He directed procurement agencies to set up adequate collection centers across major maize-producing districts and ensure smooth operations throughout the season. “At no point will farmers be left without support.
The government is fully committed to purchasing maize at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and ensuring transparent, hassle-free procurement,” Atchannaidu stated. He also instructed agricultural officers to closely monitor the arrival of crops and coordinate with marketing and civil supplies departments to prevent delays. Farmer groups welcomed the minister’s assurance, saying that timely procurement is crucial during periods of price volatility. They expressed hope that swift government intervention this season would help stabilize market prices and support their livelihoods.
The minister further reiterated that the state is exploring long-term strategies, including strengthening storage facilities and improving market linkages, to make maize cultivation more profitable for farmers.
